National Federation of Stonewall Democrats Condemns the continued attack on Transgender Americans

(Washington, D.C.) – National Federation of Stonewall Democrats Calls Condemns the continued attack on Transgender Americans.

(Washington, D.C.) – The National Federation of Stonewall Democrats condemn Trump‘s fifth executive order attacking Americans who are transgender. It is abhorrent that Trump had to lie repeatedly in an effort to justify this latest move, ordering schools to violate federal laws by banning transgender athletes from women’s but not men’s sports. Trump uses attacks on transgender Americans to distract from the rejection of his absurd proposals, from deporting American citizens to exiling foreigners from their homes so that he can build hotels on their land.

With the rejection of each of his proposals, Trump has responded by releasing an anti-transgender order. Trump is calculating that his right wing base will simply move on and cheer.

“We call on all democrats and all Americans to reject this divisive policy and to stand by our transgender family members. These policies only serve as a diversion from Trump's failures and inability to fulfill campaign promises, especially as it pertains to lowering costs for everyday Americans.” said Jeremy Comeau, President of the National Federation of Stonewall Democrats.

We call on the NCAA to reject Trump's order to violate title seven and title nine of the civil rights act which isn’t about protecting women’s sports—it’s about stoking fear and division while targeting a vulnerable group. Beyond being unnecessary, it inflicts real harm on trans people’s mental health, sense of belonging, and ability to participate fully in society.
